About the Future-Focused Learning Series

The streamlined and prioritized Indiana Academic Standards and Early Learning Standards released in 2023 by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) complement Indiana’s ongoing work to ensure every student is prepared with the knowledge and skills needed for long-term success. The standards were streamlined by at least 25% at each grade level and content area, and the new standards will be evaluated on state assessments beginning with science assessments in the 2023-2024 school year. Early Learning Standards were also adopted and aligned during the prioritization process. The implementation of these updated standards will allow educators to build capacity and focus their impact in the classroom.

The Future-Focused Learning Series, a collaborative effort with IDOE and the Educational Service Centers of Indiana (ESCI), supports Indiana educators in the implementation of the streamlined and prioritized 2023 Indiana Academic Standards, Early Learning Standards, and Integrated STEM Standards. The series helps educators assess how standards impact curriculum maps, inform various assessments, and help shape curricular resources. It also helps educators strategize how best to support focused student populations through the delivery of specialized professional learning opportunities.

Professional Learning Opportunities

Professional learning opportunities were made available through in-person regional summits hosted by educational service centers across the state in September 2023, workshop-style school year support workshops hosted between November 2023 and March 2024, and online courses available in the Indiana Learning Lab.

In-Person Regional Summits
In-person Regional Summits were held across the state—in Fort Wayne, Merrillville, Indianapolis, Huntingburg, Columbus, and virtually—from September 12, 2023, through September 21, 2023, with workshops dedicated to helping Indiana educators, school leaders, and instructional coaches successfully implement the 2023 Indiana Academic Standards, Early Learning Standards, and Integrated STEM Standards. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us and for your dedication as we work together to bring high-quality, standards-aligned learning experiences to Indiana students. All summit slide decks and resources can be accessed via this Google Drive folder.

School Year Support Workshops

Five live hybrid professional development workshops were hosted in regions across the state to support the 2023 Indiana Academic Standards (IAS) and Early Learning Standards implementation. An innovative approach to simultaneous learning across the state, a virtual presenter shared content and led activities for regional groups during each full-day session, with local facilitators supporting the in-person learning experience on-site each day (9 AM – 3 PM ET).

These workshops focused on a hands-on exploration of the 2023 IAS and related documents. Attendees left with clarity on how the 2023 IAS are structured as well as how to use the standards, frameworks, blueprints, and all other related documents to make adaptations to grade-level content, organization, and development.

All educators were welcome to attend these sessions.
